The Ranking Web or Webometrics is the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions. Webometrics does the global ranking twice a year according to the number of times a new article appears on the Internet about research done at the institution. This is considered an indicator of the impact and prestige of the university and its commitment to disseminating research outcomes.

We are pleased to share with you the ranking of our member universities for the year 2015. Among the 55 member universities, Stellenbosch University was ranked highest (2nd position after the University of Cape Town), followed by University of Pretoria (4th position), University of KwaZulu Natal (6th position) and Makerere University (11th position). Only 20 of the 55 RUFORUM universities were ranked among the top 100 African universities and 44 universities ranked under the top 500 including the 20 universities mentioned above.
