Training Opportunity: Management of Internationalisation

The key objective of the training course is to qualify university staff (either International Office staff or higher education managers responsible for coordinating international activities) from selected countries of Africa, Latin America, and Asia, to manage processes and tasks of internationalisation in the area of higher education. The programme will enable the participants to build up improved and more effective structures of internationalisation at their home universities. The programme is neither aimed to HEI with an already very developed stage of internationalisation, nor aims mainly to provide knowledge for proposal writing for third party funding.

Up to 30 participants will be selected. A gender balance is aimed at, given that qualifications and other criteria are fulfilled.

In Africa, candidates of the following countries are eligible to apply: Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Participants’ Profile

  • At least 2 years of experience in the area of Higher Education Management: either as international office staff or higher education managers responsible for coordinating international activities.
  • Not older than 50 years of age.
  • Active and excellent English language skills (speaking and writing) are indispensable.
  • Commitment to attend all workshops and to develop an individual PAP, commit to a project report at least every 2 months.
  • Minimum technical equipment that guarantees the regular contact during the distance phases: internet connection and, if possible IT support for video conferences.

Apply Now: PhD Studies at the African Center of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT)


The Africa Center of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT) is established at the University of Rwanda (UR), College of Science and Technology with financial support from the World Bank ACE II project.  UR-ACEIoT aims to train a critical mass of African Scientists and Engineers in the field of IoT through Higher Education and Research. This provides a great opportunity for African students to enroll in multidisciplinary post-graduate programs in the field of IoT. ACEIoT will build on UR’s existing collaborations with the local and international partners, including Carnegie Mellon University in Rwanda, and the International Center for Theoretical Physics, Italy.  This ensures that the training will be conducted by a truly global faculty.

Applications are invited from highly motivated and research-oriented students for the admission to PhD Programs in the field of Internet of Things (IoT) with focus on the following areas of specializations:

  • PhD in Wireless Sensor Networking
  • PhD in Embedded Computing Systems

Trainings will be provided through carefully designed curricula to promote cutting-edge interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research in the field of IoT. The research supervision would be provided by faculty from UR-College of Science and Technology, as well as from other regional and international Partners from Universities and Research laboratories. Research topics should focus towards the development of new innovative approaches and solutions with relevance to the ESA priority domains, focusing on low-cost, open and sustainable solutions. The Research outcome should describe an overall working system/product/prototype or a real world deployment experience. Solutions to real world problems faced by the East and Southern African region would be of particular interest.

The Council of the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) invites applications to fill the position of Pro Vice Chancellor, Innovations and Business Development. The University of Zimbabwe is a comprehensive state supported institution located on a 220-hectare campus in Harare.  It has a teaching faculty of approximately 1 200 and an enrolment of more than 17 000 students, offering over 100 first – degree programmes, more than 105 taught postgraduate programmes and several research degree programmes.  Its nationally accredited programmes, which have international recognition, reflect the University’s commitment to scholarship and academic excellence.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the position is strategic to the attainment of the University’s mission and goals.
