Press Release: RUFORUM Vision 2030 first Five year Operational Plan approved by the Board
Kampala, Uganda (15,May 2018) – The first five year (2018-2022) Operational Plan of the RUFORUM Vision 2030 Strategy (The African Universities’ Agenda for Agricultural Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation – AHESTI) has been approved. The approval took place during the 14th Executive Board Meeting at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, held in Nairobi, Kenya on 12th May 2018 and was chaired by Professor Mabel Imbuga the Board Chairperson.
The Operational Plan spells out the processes and actions that RUFORUM with support from, and collaboration with, partners will undertake to achieve its intended results. The Operational Plan articulates the business case and rationale for investment in Africa’s higher agricultural and STI education and training.
The Operational Plan will be implemented through four Flagship Programmes and Secretariat Coordination: TAGDev- Transforming African Agricultural Universities’ growth and development; RANCH-Regional Anchor Universities for Higher Agricultural Education; CREATE-Cultivating Research and Teaching Excellence, and K-Hub: Knowledge Hub for University Networking, Partnership and Advocacy.
TAGDEV will support youth development, training development leaders for Africa and strengthening university -community engagement, while RANCH will support training of science leaders for the continent (graduate and postdoctoral training). CREATE will have special emphasis on strengthening staff capacities in African Universities and increasing the pool of women scientists especially in Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Technology. The K-Hub will support mechanisms and platforms for convening members and partners to develop innovative ideas, and demonstrate the power of university-generated analytics and knowledge to provide decision-support tools, policy advice, systems that enable universities improve their operations, and influence communities as users of knowledge.
To support implementation of the Vision 2030 Strategy, the Board has established two positions of Deputy Executive Secretaries at the RUFORUM Secretariat, one responsible for Programme Development and Implementation, and the second for Programme Planning, Resource Mobilisation and Management. Specific positions have also been established to give focus to training Development practitioners and Science leaders
