The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) through the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme has raised Euro 4,198,375 to support training of 106 postgraduate students in 11 African universities. The resources mobilized will support the training of 71 Masters and 35 PhD students. It will also facilitate the movement of 20 academic and administrative staff from 17 African countries in the period of five years (2017 to 2022). In total 12 RUFORUM members universities are participating in the seven funded projects.

The three projects that were developed through RUFORUM will facilitate students training and staff mobility in the areas of fisheries and aquaculture, fragile eco-systems and crop improvement for food security. As an associate partner in the three projects, RUFORUM will backstop the students’ recruitment and training process through designing and publishing of calls for scholarships, facilitate staff exchanges and support sharing of lessons and experiences from the projects.

The Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme supports higher education cooperation between countries in Africa. The scheme aims to promote sustainable development and ultimately contributes to poverty reduction by increasing the availability of trained and qualified high-level professional manpower in Africa.

The Intra-Africa Mobility Scheme complements RUFORUM’s initiatives such as the Graduate Teaching Assistantship Program which facilitates mobility of academic staff across the continent to increase the pool of scientists in the continent.  Below are tables with summaries of the funded projects and partnerships.
