Strengthening capacity for teaching and research through African Universities – RUFORUM/DAAD award 9 scholarships
The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) is pleased to announce winners of the 2017 DAAD/RUFORUM in-region and in-country scholarships. Since 2011, RUFORUM has been in collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD) to promote the regional doctoral training programmes offered by RUFORUM member universities in the East African Region. The collaboration offers opportunities for university staff and African scientists to enhance their qualifications by enrolling in doctoral programmes within Africa, particularly focusing on four disciplines: Food Science and Human Nutrition, Agricultural and Rural Innovation, Life Sciences, and Plant Breeding and Biotechnology.
Each year, since the start of the collaboration, DAAD provides scholarships through RUFORUM to train students in the four identified disciplines. The scholarships target academic teaching staff in African universities and researchers at national institutions. This year’s awardees represent the sixth cohort of beneficiaries and will bring the total number of doctoral trainees 29.
Details of the 9 successful students and the doctoral programmes on which they will enroll are listed in the table below. These students are expected to commence their studies in September 2017 at the respective member universities. Overall, the scholarships will cover costs associated with tuition fees, stipend, research funds, travel and medical insurance.
